40% Of Players Think $100 Is A Fair Price For GTA 6, Survey Reveals

A few hours ago, we reported that a leaked email from retailer Best Buy suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders may open on May 18. However, the leak did not reveal anything about the game’s pricing, as Rockstar is still staying very quiet about the game’s price even just months before release.

That silence has led to many rumors about GTA 6 possibly costing more than the current $70 standard for AAA games, especially considering the huge hype and reported budget behind the project.

GTA 6 cost
GTA 6 is estimated to cost up to $1.5 billion to develop.

Now, a new independent market research study conducted by FirstLook gives us a clearer idea of what players think about that possibility. The survey questioned 2,000 active gamers from the United States and the United Kingdom, and the results show that many players may already be ready to pay a higher price.

According to the study, 40% of respondents believe that $100 would be a fair price for GTA 6. Meanwhile, 59% think that amount would be too expensive, while 1% surprisingly believes that $100 would actually be too cheap for the game. Even so, the average expected price among players sits at around $80, which is already above the current standard price for most AAA game releases.

However, considering the massive hype surrounding GTA 6, it seems that many players are going to buy the game regardless of the final price. The survey says that 94% of respondents still plan to purchase the game no matter how much it costs, while another 29% said they expect to spend less money on other video games around GTA 6’s launch window so they can afford Rockstar’s new title.

In related news, Bank of America believes that GTA 6 should be priced at $80 to help establish a new price standard for the video game industry. For more GTA 6 related coverage as we approach its inevitable marketing cycle launch, keep checking GameObserver.
