It might be hard to believe it, but Overwatch is officially a decade old this month. First launching on May 22 in 2016, Overwatch has been through two major rebrands, dozens of new heroes and millions of players. To celebrate the last ten years of Overwatch, Blizzard just revealed an extra special Anniversary event to commemorate the occasion.
Starting tomorrow, that’s May 12 at time of writing, the Overwatch 10th Anniversary Event goes live, and it’s packed full of rewards. Firstly, players will be able to earn 21 exclusive skins for the initial Overwatch launch hero roster. These skins appear to be recolors of the base skins from the original Overwatch, but marked with magenta and gold accents. There are also 33 new 2D cosmetics (Player Banners, Icons, etc.) created by both the development team and the Overwatch community, along with 5 new Weapon Charms and new Player Titles.

Of course, no Overwatch event is complete without Loot Boxes, and there are a bunch included. Players will be able to earn a Legendary Loot Box each week throughout the event (suggesting a max of three), along with 15 Anniversary Loot Boxes.
This latter kind of Loot Box is unique, as Anniversary Loot Boxes have not appeared in Overwatch since the reward system was reintroduced last year. Their contents is currently unknown. To speculate, it’s possible they contain new loot pools exclusive to the 10th Anniversary Event, such as the previously mentioned 21 new skins and the 33 2D cosmetics. Others hope to see more included, such as Mythic Prisms, Coins or former Battle Pass cosmetics.

Whilst it’s already ten years old, Overwatch is still going strong. Its latest season added new hero Sierra, as part of their ongoing commitment to bring players 10 new heroes in 2026 – and we already have 6! The Diablo collaboration is also still ongoing, for those looking to earn cosmetics based on one of Blizzard’s other hit franchises.
We’ll be sure to keep updating on all the latest as Overwatch celebrates its tenth birthday. For more breaking gaming news, check back often to GameObserver.
