Kingdom Hearts 4 Confirmed For Day One Switch 2 Release In A New Trailer

After years of waiting, Kingdom Hearts 4 finally made another appearance during the June 9 Nintendo Direct. Unsurprisingly, Square Enix still isn’t ready to reveal when Sora’s next adventure will launch. Nevertheless, it did confirm one major piece of news: Kingdom Hearts 4 will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 day one alongside the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC versions.

The new Nintendo Direct trailer once again takes Sora to Quadratum, the realistic world that’s ‘on the other side of existence,’ first shown in Kingdom Hearts 3 and the game’s reveal. Sora is seen battling Heartless in the middle of the Shibuya-look-alike and shows off more of the game’s combat mechanics. That includes Sora using the Keyblade’s chain like a grappling hook and summoning a flood of golden Keyblades for extended aerial combos.

While confirming the Switch 2 release, Square Enix is still tight-lipped on Kingdom Hearts 4 release window.

One of the Kingdom Hearts 4 Direct trailer’s biggest moments features Sora facing off against a gigantic Heartless — which then smashed him directly into an office building while people inside screamed in shock. It also revealed other Heartless variants; one enemy seems to be able to use its oversized arms as shields. But cryptic Kingdom Hearts trailers aren’t complete without mysterious characters briefly appearing throughout the video. Among them were Strelitzia, the young Keyblader from the Union χ spin-off, a smug-looking aristocratic young man, another Keyblade holder who suspiciously bears a striking resemblance to Noctis from Final Fantasy XV, and a blonde-haired older guy.

While Kingdom Hearts 4‘s release is probably still a long, long way off, Switch 2 owners at least have something to help pass the time. After being stuck with the cloud version on the original Switch, Square Enix also announced that the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] bundle will launch natively on Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. A free demo for Kingdom Hearts 3 and its ReMind DLC is also available immediately after the Nintendo Direct ended.

In typical Tetsuya Nomura style, the latest trailer raised far more questions than it answered. But no doubt that die-hard Kingdom Hearts fans got even more things to dissect while they wait for Square Enix to reveal more.
