Earlier this week, the Pan European Game Information (or PEGI) rating board began displaying a page for a Remaster of Bandai Namco’s PS1 classic Tales of Eternia (Released in North America as Tales of Destiny II), giving a rating for a Switch release of the game. The game was given a rating of PEGI 12 for violence and occasional bad language. Curiously, the release date for the release was April 16th, 2026, and at the time of writing, Tales of Eternia is not available or even listed on the Nintendo eShop.
This led to intense speculation about the nature of the release- was the remaster going to be based on the PS1 game, or only a slightly different PSP version? What Quality of Life features would be added? Would it include multiplayer, and how? Would there be additional dungeons and playable characters as had happened for other Tales of Rereleases? Would they fix the problem that made several fully scripted and voiced sequences impossible to view in the course of normal play? The original Tales of Eternia was fully voiced, leading many to wonder if the re-release would use the original dubs or if Bandai Namco would record new lines. And of course, everyone wanted to know when the game would be formally announced.

Even more curiously, on April 30th, the listing was removed from the PEGI website without warning or any follow-up announcement. This has led to speculation over whether the PEGI board accidentally released the rating too early, or if Bandai Namco changed the intended release and the PEGI website overlooked the change. Currently, fans of the game are eager for the official announcement of the remaster and are wondering how and when the game’s actual announcement and release will arrive.
As of this writing, the only PEGI rating for Tales of Eternia is for the 2005 PSP port. For more gaming news, stay tuned to GameObserver.
