The incident took place at the boy’s home while playing the Wrath of the Lich King expansion

The Sweedish news site, The Local, reported on Sunday that a 15 year old boy collapsed yesterday while playing the new World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. The young man went into convulsions after a 24-hour binge.
The boy had invited seven friends to his home in Laholm on Saturday to play the new expansion. Around 2:00am on Sunday the 15-year old went into what appeared to be an epileptic seizure.
“They played all day and all night. Maybe they got a few hours of sleep. They ate a little food and breakfast at their computers,” the boy’s father told the Kvällsposten newspaper.
“We were terrified and called rescue servicees,” he continued.
The boy was taken to a hospital where it was revealed his body simply could not take the stress of sleep deprivation and sustained concentration after playing the game for so long. The teenager will make a full recovery but the boy’s father decided to limit his access to computer games. He also took it upon himself to warn the boy’s friends and parents.
“They also think the boys need to reduce the amount of time they play and will themselves be more vigilant,” said the father.
After the release of Wrath of the Lich King officials from the Game Over games treatment center in Linköping, Sweden, have noticed a spike in calls from concerned parents.
“It’s been a huge problem. We have parents who call everyday and ask,” said Game Over’s Emilie Backlund to the Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) newspaper. “And it’s not only a problem for young people. Adults have also contacted us and it really doesn’t matter how old you are,” clarified Backlund.
