Resident Evil Creator Teams Up With Stellar Blade Director To “Create Games That Will Change The World”

Shinji Mikami’s return to the video game industry is certainly welcome news. He is the creator of Resident Evil and has also directed well-known titles such as Resident Evil 4, The Evil Within, and Ghostwire: Tokyo. After leaving Tango Gameworks in 2023, Mikami founded a new studio called Unbound. The studio is already working on its first AAA original IP for PC and consoles. What many did not expect is that this first Unbound project would involve one of the most talked-about creators in recent years.

Earlier today, Unbound’s official account on X (formerly Twitter) posted a short 17-second video confirming a collaboration with Kim Hyung-tae. As the founded of Shift Up, Kim Hyung-tae leads the studio behind Stellar Blade. He also served as the director of the action game released on PS5 and PC.

Shinji Mikami has officially returned to the video game industry by founding a new independent studio called Unbound Games.

In the teaser, Mikami says, “Together, you and I, let’s create games that will change the world. Let’s do it. I will put all my effort into it.” Hyung-tae replies, “And I will do the same,” which would, of course, create excitement among fans of Stellar Blade, Resident Evil, and The Evil Within. The video ends by promising that their first project will be announced soon, so for now all that remains is to wait. It will most likely be a new IP, since Unbound had already confirmed that it was working on its first original game for PC and consoles.

It certainly looks like Shinji Mikami and the director of Stellar Blade are working on something big together, and we can only wait to find out what it is.

In other news, players using the newly added photo mode in Resident Evil Requiem have discovered hidden Easter eggs strongly hinting at a Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake.
