After more than 10 years without a new BioShock, things are still not where fans expected, and even Take-Two’s CEO isn’t happy about it. In a recent interview with Game File, Strauss Zelnick said he is “deeply disappointed” that a new BioShock game has not been released in over a decade. The last new entry was BioShock Infinite in 2013, so it has now been about 13 years without a new game in the series.
Zelnick explained that he is not really “surprised” by how long it’s taking, since he closely follows the business. But he still admits the situation is not good. He said, “Think about what ‘surprise’ implies. That’s like, one day, everything’s awesome, and the next day, I’m like, ‘Holy sh*t.’ And I don’t run the business that way. But I think if you’re saying ‘disappointed,’ yes. Deeply disappointed.”

He also spoke about the development of the next BioShock, which has been long and difficult. According to him, the team struggled to find the right direction. He added, “I think finding the right creative purchase was hard. I think we, in retrospect, wasted a lot of time and money chasing down some creative alleys that turned out to be dead ends.”
Even with these problems, there is still some hope. Zelnick said he feels “a lot better” about the project now. Despite reports of story changes and restructuring, 2K Games, the publisher of BioShock, wants to take its time. They say the goal is not just to make a “good game”, but a “great one”, instead of rushing a game that is not ready. For more BioShock related coverage in future, keep checking GameObserver.
In other news, Take-Two’s CEO has also commented on the price of Grand Theft Auto VI, suggesting they will “charge way, way, way less” than the actual value of the game.
