It’s normal for games to change a lot during development, and sometimes entire sections are removed before release. The Resident Evil series has seen this many times before, and Resident Evil Requiem is no different. Director Koshi Nakanishi recently confirmed that the game originally included one more full chapter that never made it into the final version.
In a recent interview with Denfaminico Gamer, Nakanishi revealed that Resident Evil Requiem originally had a replacement Chapter 2 that was later removed. He explained that this chapter was planned to happen shortly after the beginning of the game, but it was cut to tighten the game’s overall structure and pacing.

Nakanishi compared this to his previous work on Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which also had a scrapped chapter in the same area. In that game, the removed section was supposed to connect the guest house to the main house. He said that Requiem had a similar case, where an entire part of the story was removed even though it had already been planned.
The reason for removing the chapter was not because of budget problems or time limits. It was simply a creative decision made during development. As the team kept reviewing the game, they likely felt that cutting this part helped the story flow better. Nakanishi also said it is actually quite common for a full chapter to be removed during development. He explained (via machine translation) that “the person who produced it will be disappointed and might even get angry, but as long as the result is good, everyone is satisfied.”
This approach clearly worked, as Resident Evil Requiem has been a huge success. If you still haven’t played it and are wondering whether it is worth buying, you can read our review, where we gave it a score of 9 out of 10, saying, “While it’s not perfect in terms of its narrative, Resident Evil Requiem is the perfect culmination of all the series’ best bits to date – and it’s incredibly fun to play.”
