Following his appearance in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, the iconic Fox McCloud and his legendary team are back in Star Fox – a complete remake of the Nintendo 64 classic Star Fox 64 (known as Star Fox Lylat Wars in some regions). Built from the ground-up exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, the remake features completely new and modern graphical interpretations of the Star Fox team and the environments of the Lylat System.
Stage layouts are faithfully recreated, but Star Fox has been completely remade with its new cinematics and dialogue, backed by an orchestral soundtrack, along with new difficulty options, mouse mode, co-op mode and other new multiplayer elements. To promote Star Fox, Nintendo even revealed a new filter system that allows you to use the models as Fox and friends’ faces as a filter for your own Switch 2 camera.

For those unfamiliar with Star Fox, Fox McCloud leads the titular mercenary squad alongside piloting extraordinaire and rival Falco Lombardi, engineering specialist Slippy Toad and mastermind of strategy Peppy Hare.
The campaign mode takes players to the Lylat System of planets, on a mission to restore peace across the galaxy. The route players can take through the story can shift based on how successful their missions are, making each playthrough potentially different.

In a rather unusual display of spontaneity, Nintendo revealed the dedicated Star Fox Direct just 10 minutes before It aired last night. It caught the gaming community off guard, with the return of Star Fox being something many have asked for, yet few expected to see so soon.
Star Fox releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 next month on June 25. It will retail for $50 digitally, or $60 for those who would prefer a boxed copy, in line with Nintendo’s new pricing scheme. For more updates on all things Nintendo, keep your eyes on GameObserver!
